Can't Sleep?

We all know that to stay healthy we should eat right and exercise. But
what about sleeping well?  Sleep is also an important part of your
body's ability to maintain balance and many people suffer from lack of
sleep.

Getting a good night's sleep will affect your mood, health and energy. It
will affect how you function during the following day and even the
decisions you make. Due to busy schedules many people don't allow
themselves enough time to sleep. Others have so much on their mind
that they can't fall asleep even when they want to. Think of sleep as a
necessary part of maintaining and improving your health just like your
exercise routine or taking a vitamin.

People suffer lack of sleep for many reasons physically and mentally. If
you feel you are suffering from insomnia it is best to check with a doctor
and eliminate any physical reasons for not being able to sleep.

If you have a hard time sleeping because your mind is cluttered with worry
or
things to do then here are a few things you can do to help you fall asleep:

  • Drink soothing tea before bed like chamomile, kava kava tea or a blend like this:

  • Wear ear plugs and/or an eye mask. Sometimes shutting out all noise and light will relax you enough to fall
asleep. Try these great sleeping aids:

  • As you lie in bed, try focusing on your breathing. With your inhale feel the belly expand, then the rib cage
and then the chest. As you exhale feel the chest fall, then the rib cage and then the belly falls back into
place. If your mind wanders keep bringing it back to your breathing.

  • Go through the events of your day backwards. Start with thinking of when you actually went to bed, then
maybe brushed your teeth, put on your pajamas, ate dinner, etc. Keep going backwards to all the things you
did that day until you reach the time when you woke up. This allows your mind to let go of the day.

  • Listen to relaxing music or white noise. Here are some good examples of a sleeping CD and a white noise
    machine:

  • Think of all the things you appreciate in your life. This will distract your mind from all your worries and allow
you to have a positive sleeping experience.
