Lindy Hop
Lindy hop evolved in the late 1920's and was influenced by jazz, tap, and the
charleston. Some great examples of lindy hop are in some of the early movies such as
Hellzapoppin from 1941. In the late 1990's it became popular again among young
people after being featured in the Gap commercials and in the movie Swing Kids.
Unlike the classic east coast swing dance which is a six-count basic, lindy combines
both six-count and eight-count basics. It is most recognized by it's eight-count swing
out which has several variations. The lindy is also characterized by partner charleston
moves and lifts and jumps. It can be done to both slower and faster tempos.
